Neuschwanstein Castle

Hotel Tannenhof and Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein CastleThe beautiful castles of King Ludwig II are only a short distance from Hotel Tannenhof.

Neuschwanstein castle, as well as Hohenschwangau and Linderhof castles, are only 20 minutes by car from the hotel.

Combine your holiday in the Hotel Tannenhof with a cultural journey through the castles in the neighbouring province of Bavaria.

Ludwig's castles, which he never meant to be used by anyone else, have been visited by more than 50 million people since his death. They are stone witnesses to the fantasy world that the king wanted to escape into.

Ludwig must be judged to have failed in his efforts to develop himself in the idealistic worlds of poetry and history. He preferred death to a return to reality.

King Ludwig II loved nature. His biggest worry was that the environment should not be harmed by the building of Neuschwanstein castle and he gave the workmen precise instructions to avoid this.

On arrival at the castle it is easy to see how successful this approach was. The view from the Marienbrucke is especially impressive. The views from the castle windows also resemble framed landscapes.

King Ludwig often stood at his windows, sunk in his thoughts in front of the alpine landscape and the stone ramparts of his mountain kingdom.
